ADELYN HORTON - WHEN ADELYN WAS 18 MONTHS OLD, SHE HAD HER FIRST OF MANY FEBRILE SEIZURES

When Adelyn was 18 months old she had her first of many febrile seizures.  It wasn’t until she was four years old that she was diagnosed with epilepsy.  I will never forget the time we sat down to tell her why she takes “vitamins” everyday.  We were talking about how sometimes her brain tells her body to do “the wiggles” and that she has epilepsy.

When we asked her how she felt about it she said, “this is just what makes me Adelyn” and she was right.  Even at such a young age Adelyn has always had such a positive perspective on things, and she still does today.  She is now 13 years old, and with seizure control she enjoys playing basketball, running cross country and track.  She is also an Ambassador for the Epilepsy Foundation and the 1 in 26 Athlete Foundation.

“Playing sports makes me feel confident and happy.  When I’m competing I feel normal like everyone else and do not have to think about having epilepsy…. Epilepsy doesn’t define you, it is just one piece of who you are – keep writing your story."

Together, Adelyn and I created SAME WAVE to uplift and support the epilepsy community.  Driven by connection and collaboration, we are passionately committed to giving back and creating a lasting ripple effect.
