An Inspiring Encounter: Meeting Jasmine.

When Jasmine first reached out to me, I could sense through her words a profound desire to make a difference.

She wanted to connect and discuss how she could contribute to the epilepsy program at VGH

through VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation. What stood out to me immediately was her genuine passion for helping others, especially those who, like her, have faced significant health challenges.

Little did I know that our initial connection would lead to one of the most inspiring meetings I’ve ever had. Just a week after our initial exchange, I had the privilege of meeting Jasmine in person. I vividly remember that moment – she walked out of the coffee shop with an energy that was both vibrant and magnetic. Her smile was warm, and her spirit seemed to light up the space. As we sat down to talk, it struck me how incredible it was that this strong, glowing woman had undergone major brain surgery only three months earlier. It was hard to reconcile the image of her before me with the reality of what she had just been through.

Our conversation flowed effortlessly. Jasmine shared her story with such grace and honesty that it left a lasting impression on me. She spoke about her journey, the challenges she faced, and how she now wanted to channel her experience into something positive by supporting the epilepsy program. What moved me most was not just her determination to give back, but the depth of her empathy. Jasmine wasn't just motivated by her own experience; she was driven by a desire to help others who might be afraid, uncertain, or struggling with their own health battles. Her passion was palpable, and her ideas for fundraising were creative and filled with hope.

As our meeting went on, I found myself not just listening but learning. Jasmine had an incredible way of making you see the world through her eyes – eyes that had seen both struggle and triumph. She talked about wanting to support others, to show them that recovery is possible, and that life after surgery can be full of joy and purpose. By the end of our conversation, I was deeply inspired. I left that meeting with a renewed sense of purpose, fueled by Jasmine's story and her unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Meeting Jasmine was a reminder of why I do the work that I do. It’s about the people – their stories, their struggles, and their victories. Jasmine embodies the strength and resilience that can emerge from even the most challenging circumstances. Her journey is a beacon of hope for others, and I am truly honoured to have crossed paths with her. Together, I know we will make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we seek to support.
